Basketball star Shaquille O’Neal’s plans to create a beach at his $5 million lakeside home in the exclusive area of Isleworth, Fla., are a wash, according the Associated Press. The Los Angeles Lakers star cleared about a hundred feet of frontage on Lake Butler and filled in the area with white sand. But he reportedly cleared about twice the lakefront allowable by law, and some of the sand was placed below the high-water mark — both code violations if done without permits. O’Neal was slapped with a $236 fine, told to remove the sand, and replant about 50 feet of the beachfront with 3,000 native plants and grasses. Bruce Eastman, a manager at Orange County’s Environmental Protection Division, said O’Neal’s already paid the fee and begun the beach overhaul. “He’s been extremely cooperative,” he said. “I wish all of our cases were this easy.” Meanwhile, squabbling LA Lakers stars O’Neal and Kobe Bryant have something else to bicker about: both have been nominated for Favorite Male Sports Star in Nickelodeon’s Kids Choice Awards, scheduled to air April 21.
