In a letter posted Tuesday morning on her official Web site, the country superstar opens up about her “renewed faith in love and commitment” and all the people in her life who supported her.
“In the last two and a half years of adjusting to life after separation and divorce, I needed to lean on others more often than I was accustomed to,” Twain writes. “These people have been gifts, and I am fortunate to have so many of these beautiful people – friends, family and beloved fans, [whose] support I cherish more deeply with each day that passes.”
“Talking about love,” she continues, “I am excited to share some personal news with you; I’m in love! Frederic Nicolas Thiebaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship. Fred and I are happy to announce, our ENGAGEMENT!”
Saying she’s “optimistic about the future,” Twain writes, “I’m looking forward to what the new year has in store and to sharing it with you. So, I’ll be in touch with more news and details soon. Until then, have a fantastic holiday season and I wish you love.”
This happiness for the country singer, 45, and her new fiancé, 40, blossomed from painful circumstances. Both of their marriages crumbled in 2008 – as Twain’s husband of 14 years, music producer Robert “Mutt” Lange, abruptly left her, while Thiébaud’s wife, Marie-Anne, left him.
Sources say that Lange and Marie-Anne were having an affair together, though Lange has denied that.
Twain and Thiébaud were later seen vacationing together in Canada, New York and Florida. In August 2009, Twain revealed the depth of her feelings for Thiébaud, saying he had been a source of great support for her and her son Eja, 9, at the most difficult time.
She added at the time: “Having gone through the suffering of his family splitting apart at the same time and under the same extreme circumstances, he understands me better than anyone.”
