Pete Sampras, in his first tournament since August, beat Andre Agassi on Sunday in Hanover, Germany, to win the ATP Tour World Championship. It was the 28th meeting of the two players, with Sampras routing Agassi 6-1, 7-5, 6-4, to win the season-ending tournament for the fifth time. Despite the drubbing, Agassi still ends the year ranked as No. 1, with Sampras holding the third slot, behind No. 2-ranked Yevgeny Kafelnikov. “I was unhappy with how I played,” Agassi told The New York Times. “But it is good to see Pete play like this. There’s a lot to look forward to at the Australian Open.”
