SALINGER STOPS MOVIE

Posted on

A New York screening of an Iranian film adapted without permission from J.D. Salinger’s novel “Franny and Zooey” was canceled after representatives of the reclusive author threatened legal action. The film, “Pari,” directed by Dariush Mehrjui, was to have been shown last weekend as part of a three-week Iranian film festival by the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Problems arose after Salinger learned that the film was based on his 1961 novel, The New York Times reported. “They simply did not seek permission from the copyright owner of the novel,” said R. Andrew Boose, a lawyer for Salinger.
