Rosie Rescues Streisand

Posted on

When it comes to Barbra Streisand, Rosie O’Donnell giveth what Barbara Walters tooketh away. Rosie plans to air a four-minute pro-Al Gore political speech that her pal Barbra (without the a) had delivered and thought would be broadcast during her interview with Barbara (with the a) on “20/20” last week. Instead, it appeared in a severely truncated form after ABC, which produces the TV news magazine, decided to use only 44 words of the speech, followed by a clip of George Bush refuting Streisand’s claims. So Rosie said that she will air the Streisand speech in its entirety on today’s program. Reuters reports that Rosie’s syndicator, Warner Bros. TV (which, like PEOPLE, is part of Time Warner), dropped objections to the host’s decision after Rosie threatened not to renew her contract for the show, which reportedly expires in two months. “Rosie’s a very brave girl, because she’s bucking Warner Bros. to do that,” Streisand told CSPAN in a phone interview.
