Rosie O’Donnell is teaming up with HBO to do a documentary that will chronicle the inaugural cruise of R Family Vacations, a family-friendly travel company for the gay community launched by O’Donnell, 42, and her wife, Kelli O’Donnell, earlier this year.
“We’re delighted to be in business with Rosie again, and we are honored that she is entrusting this documentary – which explores true family values and celebrates difference – to HBO,” the pay-cable network’s documentary/family president Sheila Nevins said.
“The gay family cruise gives children a chance to be among others in like circumstances,” Nevins added, according to Variety.
R Family’s first cruise, which took place July 11-18, saw 500 families board the Norwegian Dawn for a voyage from New York to the Bahamas.
“It was an amazing week. In seven days, 1,600 people became a community,” the O’Donnells said in a statement.
O’Donnell’s credits for HBO (which, like PEOPLE, is part of Time Warner) include an HBO Comedy Hour stand-up special and an Emmy-nominated family special, Rosie O’Donnell’s Kids Are Punny.
