Playing a future princess in the upcoming Lifetime movie William and Kate was a real wake-up call for actress Camilla Luddington.
“Clearly, I need to talk to her about what to wear,” the British actress, 26, joked to reporters on Friday. “I got to exchange my biker boots for her really nice shoes and gorgeous dresses. It had me come home and feel depressed about my own wardrobe!”
Playing Kate Middleton meant 72 costume changes for Luddington – sometimes up to 12 per day.
“I would see the outfits on the rack and think, ‘Oh, that’s not going to go together,'” she adds. “Once they were on, I was like, I have no clue about style. Clearly, I need to talk to her about what to wear!”
“As it is, we know very little about who they are behind their public personas,” he says. That’s where the movie comes in. “I think this is a very light, fun, whimsical and even quirky look behind the scenes.”
As for their resemblance to the royal couple, the actors admit they’re not exactly the spitting image of Will and Kate.
“I was never likened to him,” says Evers-Swindell of the Prince, adding with a laugh: “I guess I just didn’t run in the right circles.”
Luddington hasn’t exactly been mistaken for Middleton either, though she does look a whole lot more like her now than she used to.
“Up until a few months ago, I was actually really blonde,” she says. “I didn’t really think about [the resemblance] until I got the audition and I started to look at pictures of her online.” And then? “We have enough similarities that I thought, oh wow, I may have a chance of getting this role.”
William and Kate airs on Lifetime April 18 at 9 p.m. EST and PST.
