In the interview that accompanies the shots by photographer Steven Klein, David, 32, tells W that when he first met Victoria in 1997 after a soccer game, “I fancied her,” but he was too reserved to make a move.
“I’m quite shy. I sort of said hello and then just went back to Manchester,” he says. “I was quite upset.” (When she came back a week later, he worked up the nerve to ask for her number.)
As for their movie to Los Angeles and their new $22 million Beverly Hills home, Victoria says, “It’s a light, happy house, with a great corridor the kids are going to love when they are roller skating.” (The couple have three sons: Brooklyn, 8, Romeo, 4, and Cruz, 2.)
On the lack of live-in help: It’s because, David jokes to W: “We like to lock the doors at night and wander around naked.”
The soccer star, who is joining the L.A. Galaxy, is scheduled to be officially introduced as the newest member of the team at a press conference on Friday. Meanwhile, Victoria will be introduced to the American public with a one-hour NBC special called Victoria Beckham: Coming to America, set to air Monday.
