Patton Oswalt Shares Touching Tribute for Late Wife on Anniversary of Her Death: 'She Opened Up Her Heart & Let Me In'

Patton Oswalt is remembering his late wife, Michelle McNamara, one year after she died unexpectedly in her sleep.

Taking to Twitter on Friday, the 48-year-old actor shared a touching tribute to the love of his life.

“A beautiful friend,” the Twitter post began. “She opened up her heart and let me in.”

McNamara died on April 21, 2016, at age 46. In February, Oswalt revealed that she had passed away due to prescription medications and an undiagnosed heart condition.

“We learned today the combination of drugs in Michelle’s system, along with a condition we were unaware of, proved lethal,” the actor and comedian wrote in a statement to the Associated Press at the time.

Oswalt also explained that the couple, who wed in 2005, had “no idea” she had a condition that caused blockages in her arteries.

She and Oswalt had an 8-year-old daughter, Alice Rigney.

In December, the father of one penned an emotional essay for GQ about his first year as a single parent.

“This is my first time being a single father. I’ve missed forms for school. I’ve forgotten to stock the fridge with food she likes. I’ve run out of socks for her. I’ve run out of socks for me. It sucked and it was a hassle every time, but the world kept turning. I said, ‘Whoops, my bad,’ and fixed it and kept stumbling forward,” Oswalt wrote.

“I’m going to keep going forward, looking stupid and clumsy and inexperienced at first, then eventually getting it, until the next jolt comes, and the next floor drops out from under me, until there are no more floors.”
