SHIFTED: Reigning Miss America Katie Harman, 21, has backpedaled on an earlier statement to pageant directors in which she had complained, according to her mother and father, about the unexpected fees associated with her title, a lack of lucrative bookings and the rude treatment of her parents, reports the Associated Press. But in a prepared statement issued by the Miss America Organization on Wednesday, the former Miss Oregon said, “For the record, I love the job of Miss America and am 100 percent in support of the Miss America Organization.” Yet Harman backed out of a scheduled phone interview with the AP, the news service reports, though she said she would answer questions at a Friday press conference . . . AGREED: Elizabeth Taylor, who turns 70 at the end of this month, accepted an invitation on Wednesday to present a special Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation award to Shirley MacLaine, 64, on April 13 at the organization’s Los Angeles media awards, reports USA Today.
