ANNOUNCED: Controversial Irish singer Sinead O’Connor, 36, is saying she will retire from the music industry this July, according to a message she posted on her Web site. “I am a very shy person, believe it or not. So I ask with love, that I be left in peace and privacy by people who love my records too,” she says. It’s thought that her decision may also be linked to a fatigue syndrome that recently forced O’Connor to cancel several appearances with Massive Attack.
SET: Former New York Mayor Rudolph Giuliani, 58, and his fiancee since November, Judith Nathan, will be married May 24 at New York’s mayoral residence, Gracie Mansion, in a ceremony to be officiated by current Mayor Michael Bloomberg, say reports. “They are absolutely ecstatic,” said Sunny Mindel, Giuliani’s spokesman. “It’s a very happy time for both of them.”

BUSTED: Nine-time Olympic gold-medal winner Carl Lewis, 41, was arrested in L.A. County on April 21 and charged with driving under the influence, after he crashed his 2004 Maserati into a highway wall. The former track star, who was not injured, is due in court in July.
