CAST: As already reported by PEOPLE.com, Johnny Depp, 39, has been set to sail with Disney’s movie version of its theme park ride, “Pirates of the Caribbean.” Now an Oscar winner from Down Under is in motion to hop aboard the ship: “Shine” star Geoffrey Rush, 50, who is in negotiations to play Capt. Blackheart in the romp that will, according to the Hollywood Reporter, have blackguards vying to claim a valuable treasure and reverse an ancient curse. The Reporter also notes another old adventure that’s being dusted off for the big screen: Jules Verne’s “Around the World in 80 Days,” which was 1956’s Best Picture Oscar winner when it starred David Niven (as proper Englishman Phileas Fogg) and an all-star cast. A new version is being planned to star the very un-English Jackie Chan, 47, and to be directed by Frank Coraci (“The Wedding Singer”), says the trade paper. . . . UNITED: A celebration of World Refugee Day on Thursday brought together U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell, 65, and Angelina Jolie, 27, reports the Associated Press. “Ms. Jolie is the only ambassador I deal with who has her own fan club,” Powell said jokingly before about 100 invited guests and a crowd of curious onlookers at Washington’s Union Station. The secretary then read a statement by President George W. Bush that vowed “America will always stand firm for the non-negotiable demands of human dignity and the rule of law.” . . . GROWN: Matt Lauer’s controversial new crew cut, revealed last Monday on the “Today” show, has, by Friday, blossomed into almost a flat top. The host, 44, also looks as if he might have touched up a little of the gray on the sides and a lot of it on top. Well, hair today, gone tomorrow.
