In celebration of Father’s Day, Lionel Richie and daughter Nicole Richie sat down to interview each other for an episode of The Huffington Post‘s series Talk to Me. Among the topics of conversation were Lionel’s beginnings in Tuskegee, Alabama, how a Prince concert was where he first spotted his adopted daughter at age 2, and what it was like for Nicole to grow up with a famous dad.
“Uncle Michael Jackson, Uncle Prince … I mean you had some of the greatest uncles in the world,” he said. “Uncle Kenny Rogers!”
“From what I remember it was pretty normal for me,” said Nicole, 34. “There were a lot of people around is what I do remember. There were people in and out of the house pretty you know much all the time, but now that I’m older and I’m in this business I get it.”

In fact, Lionel, 66, pointed out that Nicole went on to create a similar life for herself, marrying musician Joel Madden.
“Are you a masochist?” he joking asked.
“It’s what I’m used to,” responded Nicole. “It almost feels safe to me. It feels normal. I don’t know what I would do with a 9 to 5 schedule.”
