Once again, the Jessica Simpson-Nick Lachey-marriage-is-over reports have been shot down – this time by Nick himself.
Cohosting TV’s Live With Regis and Kelly with Kelly Ripa on Wednesday, Lachey, 31, said everything is “absolutely wonderful” with Simpson. The singer also denied being jealous of Simpson’s career. (His wife opens Friday in the movie The Dukes of Hazzard.)
Indeed, the couple seemed happy when both appeared together on Live With Regis and Kelly on Friday, where Simpson cohosted the show and promoted Hazzard.
“Everything is absolutely wonderful in marriage, in life and love, and we’ve been saying it for months now, it’s just, ‘We’re okay,'” said Lachey Wednesday. “I love my wife to death and I support the heck out of her as any husband would.”
Though Simpson says she has toned down her extreme exercise routine since she finished shooting Hazzard, Lachey told PEOPLE he’s more attracted to his wife than ever.
“She’s still in great shape,” he said. “You’ve got to find that middle line between obsessive working out and also enjoying your time. So what we’ve done is increased the amount of sex.”
The rumors about a rift between Simpson and Lachey resurfaced on Wednesday when New York Post gossip columnist Cindy Adams strongly reiterated her claim made earlier in the week that the Simpson-Lachey marriage was over. Adams wrote that the two had “hired divorce lawyers, already drawn up divorce papers, even actually signed divorce papers.”
Two weeks ago, Jessica Simpson’s father told PEOPLE that his daughter and her husband may have hit some rough patches in their marriage – but that rumors of a split were dead wrong.
“Do they fight? Hell yes, they fight. Have there been moments when Nick has wanted to leave Jessica or Jess has wanted to leave Nick? Absolutely,” Joe Simpson said, quickly adding that the squabbles are not a sign of major trouble in the relationship. “(It’s the) same with me and my wife. If fighting is a sign of divorce, then we’re all going to get divorced. My wife and I have been married 27 years. We’ve been at the edge of divorce for 26 of them.”
