NBC Has 'Friends' in 'ER' and 'Law'

Posted on

NBC has reason to be proud as its signature peacock. The network topped its rivals in the Nielsen race last week for the second week running, with Wednesday dramas, “The West Wing” and “Law and Order,” drawing the biggest audiences in their history. For the second week in a row, NBC’s “Friends” was the most popular prime-time show. This week, though, CBS premieres the third edition of “Survivor” in the same Thursday nighttime slot. However, viewers didn’t buy the “Survivor” preview special last week; it drew one-third the “Friends” audience. And, for the first time in recent memory, ABC’s “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire” didn’t rise to the top of the chart. The Top 10 shows for Oct. 1-7:

1. “Friends,” NBC, 18.9, 20.0 million homes
2. “ER,” NBC, 17.4, 18.3 million homes
3. “The West Wing,” NBC, 16.3, 17.2 million homes
4. “Law & Order,” NBC, 15.0, 15.8 million homes.
5. “Everybody Loves Raymond,” CBS, 14.6, 15.4 million homes
6. “Inside Schwartz,” NBC, 13.0, 13.7 million homes
7. (tie) “CSI: Crime Scene Investigation,” CBS, 12.6, 13.3 million homes
