7 Perfect Shows to Binge Watch with Your Mom on Mother's Day

Posted on

Patrick Wymore/The CW

Mother’s Day is approaching, and you’re trying to decide the best way to show your mother you care. Take her to a fancy dinner? Stroll through a botanical garden? Visit a museum?

The truth is, your mother – being a human person – would probably rather just stay at home and watch TV with you for hours. There’s no need to plan anything fancier than a nice spread of snacks and which elastic-waisted ensemble you choose to lounge in.

Here are 7 shows that you and your mother are sure to enjoy together as you sip some chilled pinot greej and nibble on salami.

1. Gilmore Girls (Duh)

The show, being about a mother and a daughter and the dramatic implications of talking fast, is an obvious choice for a Mother’s Day binge fest. Also, it’s sufficiently PG-13, so you’re not going to get embarrassed by any nudity.

2. Real Housewives of Literally Anywhere

Because you and your mom are definitely the Yolanda Foster and Gigi Hadid of your hometown.

3. Buffy the Vampire Slayer

Joyce and Buffy Summers are the ultimate mother-daughter duo. As Buffy grapples with her vampire-slaying powers and all the danger she’s constantly facing, Joyce is nothing but lovingly supportive and concerned.

4. The O.C.

Maybe your relationship with your mother isn’t that great. That’s fine. Watch The O.C. to see Julie Cooper sleep with her daughter Marissa’s boyfriend as well as marry Marissa’s best friend’s father. Things will never get that bad between you two!

5. Downton Abbey

The last thing we want to do is stereotype anyone, but moms everywhere love Downton Abbey.

6. Jane the Virgin

#JaneTheVirgin is new TONIGHT at 9/8c!

Yes, this show, a play on the telenovela form, is ostensibly about a virgin who gets artificially inseminated but really it’s about mothers and daughters: Abuela, Xiomara and Jane. The love and support they have for for each other makes us cry at least once an episode.

7. The Americans

This is an objectively incredible show. No real Mother’s Day peg here. We guess the drama centers around a family? But mostly it centers around Russian espionage, deceit and sacrifice. (Tip: Accompany your viewing party with vodka shots and smoked fish.)
