SOLD: According to the final count, Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ sold 4.1 million DVDs by Wednesday after only one day in stores, reports the Associated Press. While impressive, the sales figure falls short of the record holder, Disney’s animated Finding Nemo DVD, which sold about 8 million. For a live-action movie, Spider-Man holds the one-day record with 7 million. Still, FOX Home Entertainment, which is distributing The Passion, calls the release the best-selling R-rated film of all time and best-selling non-English language film of all time.
UNVEILED: U2 has revealed the names of six of the 11 tracks on its as-yet-untitled album, due Nov. 23, reports Billboard. This includes the first single, “Vertigo,” scheduled for radio play later this month. Other songs include “A Man and a Woman,” “Crumbs From Your Table,” “Yahweh,” “City of Blinding Lights” and “Sometimes You Can’t Make It on Your Own.” The new CD is the follow-up to 2000’s All That You Can’t Leave Behind, which has sold more than 4 million copies in the U.S., according to Nielsen SoundScan. A world tour is expected to launch early next year.
CAST: NBC’s ER will attempt a real-time taped episode for the first time in its 10-year history, guest starring Ray Liotta as a hallucinating alcoholic ex-con, says the Hollywood Reporter. The episode is set to air Nov. 11 and “is 44 continuous minutes of this man’s treatment and his interactions with the staff in the ER and how those 44 minutes determine whether he’s going to live or die,” said executive producer David Zabel, who wrote the script. ER first experimented with real-time action in 1997 when the fourth-season premiere aired live on both the East and West coasts.
LOST: The New Mexico state Court of Appeals on Tuesday ruled against Val Kilmer and his ex-wife, actress Joanne Whalley, in a dispute over a tax refund of more than $300,000 sought by the couple on the 1995 return, AP reports. The court said the Taxation and Revenue Department had no authority to act on the refund claim because the time period for doing so had expired. Kilmer has a ranch near Santa Fe. The couple said they were due the refund because Whalley – who had filed for divorce – had moved to California in the latter part of 1995.
