'Matrix' Cast Turns Purple in London

Posted on

Purple was the color of the night for Wednesday’s wet but packed London premiere of “The Matrix Reloaded,” as nearly the entire cast showed up sporting matching purple suits from London-based designer Ozwald Boateng, who also made an appearance in one of his own eggplant-colored creations, reports PEOPLE.

Thousands of fans lined Leicester Square for as many as eight hours to get a glimpse of the arriving stars, including Keanu Reeves, 38, who told reporters that it was the largest crowd he had ever seen gathered for “The Matrix” — or for any movie.

Other arrivals: twins Adrian and Neil Rayment, who paired their purple suits with orange shirts and ties. The pair, who play the film’s pale, dreadlocked Virus Twins, described the daily make-up sessions as “two hours of agony.”

Laurence Fishburne wore his own version of Boateng’s suit, with a full-length jacket and, appropriately enough, sunglasses. “What about the suit?” he asks. “Can you dig it?”

Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith) also was decked out in a matching suit. Only Jada Pinkett Smith and Reeves shunned purple for the evening — petite Jada stunned crowds in a short, black-and-silver, off-one-shoulder dress as she huddled under a “Matrix” umbrella.

Keanu, in a black suit and white shirt, took almost half an hour to sign autographs and visit with the crowd.

What was the toughest part of this movie for Keanu? “There was nothing,” he says. “It was wonderful.”
