As for the state of their bank accounts, CNN estimates it to be around $300 million – meaning that if they lived to be 78, they’d each have to spend $6,849.31 every day for the rest of their lives to use it all up.
YANKED: Jimmy Kimmel’s late-night talk show was pulled off the air for a night following a joke the comedian, 36, made about Detroit while talking to ABC sportscaster Mike Tirico during halftime of Tuesday’s NBA game. Kimmel said, “They’re going to burn the city of Detroit down if the Pistons win, and it’s not worth it.” ABC made the decision to pull Wednesday night’s Jimmy Kimmel Live from affiliates nationwide shortly after the program was taped that night in California. On Thursday, Kimmel claimed in a statement: “What I said about Pistons fans during halftime was a joke, nothing more. If I offended anyone, I’m sorry. … Clearly, over the past 10 years, we in L.A. have taken a commanding lead in post-game riots. If the Lakers win, I plan to overturn my own car.”
DENIED: Robert Redford, 66, says he’s not planning to sell his Sundance resort in Utah’s Wasatch Mountains, AP reports. In response to media speculation (the New York Post said the star is “financially strapped”), Redford issued a statement saying his commitment to the ski area, arts and culture center and corporate retreat was “stronger than ever.” His statement didn’t address a report that he was looking to sell his stake in the Sundance channel cable network to his partners, Viacom Inc. and NBC Universal.
RIVALED: Two separate film bios of troubled rocker Janis Joplin (1943-70) are racing to the screen, reports the Wall Street Journal, with Renee Zellweger and Pink in the leading roles – though Hollywood observers tell the paper that one, and not both, projects will probably make it to the big screen. The Zellweger version would be made for Paramount, the Pink one for independent producer Peter Newman, to be directed by Penelope Spheeris (Wayne’s World). The face-off, however, seems only to be contributing to the delays of both projects.
