Arnold Schwarzenegger Not Fighting Spousal Support

Updated

What a difference one little checkmark makes.

Arnold Schwarzenegger has amended his July 20 divorce papers in which he originally asked to terminate the court’s jurisdiction to award spousal support to Maria Shriver.

New legal papers filed on Monday remove that request – the box on the legal form concerning that issue now isn’t checked.

L.A. family law attorney Scott Weston, who is not involved in the divorce case, says Schwarzenegger s original request was “standard practice.”

“He would have checked the box to give the court the right to end his spousal support obligation should Shriver at some point have enough money to support herself,” says Weston. “It’s a matter of reserving that right for the future.”

So why uncheck it now?

“He’s taking a lot of heat for having done it, as if he was intending to cut her off, which was not the case,” says Weston.
