Latin singer Marc Anthony and former Miss Universe Dayanara Torres renewed their wedding vows Saturday, five months after announcing their separation — which had taken place 26 months after their first wedding in Las Vegas.
But that was then. This is now. The couple emerged from Puerto Rico’s grand Cathedral of San Juan holding hands and kissing as bridesmaids in scarlet gowns showered them with white rose petals. Hundreds of fans observed the scene before a black limo whisked Anthony and Torres away to a private reception, the Associated Press reports.
“The plan was always to do the church wedding,” said Jennifer Neiman, Anthony’s publicist. “It was one of those things that they always intended to do and they never found the time to do.”
As PEOPLE.com previously reported, Anthony, 33, and Torres, 27, married in May 2000, but they never legally filed for separation after they announced their split last summer. They reconciled in late October.
At the time of the July breakup, their son Christian Anthony Muniz was 16 months old. Anthony also has a daughter, Arianna, born in 1994, whose mother is his former girlfriend Debbie Rosado.
“The first time we had a wedding it was very fast,” Torres told San Juan’s Primera Hora newspaper last week.
“We didn’t have much time to plan anything, and my family wasn’t there, ” she added. “This is so my family has a chance to see me in a wedding dress and in a church.”
