Mandy Moore has a Wicked hankering for the Great White Way.
The singer-actress has posted a note to fans on her Web site saying the Tony award-winning Broadway show – a musical prequel to the classic Wizard of Oz – is “beyond amazing,” and adding that she was offered the chance to replace one of the show’s costars, Kristin Chenoweth, when she leaves her role as Glinda.
In her post, Moore, 20, admits to being daunted by the role. “How could anyone step into those shoes??” she writes. “She’s pretty unbelievable and irreplaceable and totally owns that role.”
Reps for Moore say she ultimately turned down the offer because of other work commitments.
Still, the Saved! star’s love for Broadway makes sense given her recent surroundings. The actress, who split from pro tennis player Andy Roddick in March, has been out and about in New York while filming the musical Romance and Cigarettes. (In the film, she covers the 1980s Bow Wow Wow hit “I Want Candy.”)
“I’ve been here by myself for over two months now,” she told PEOPLE in May. “I’ve had people come and visit, but I’m Independent Mandy in the most exciting city in the world, so that’s kind of been fun on top of everything.”
As for her ex, Roddick advanced to the quarterfinals of Wimbledon on Monday, defeating Germany’s Alexander Popp, 7-5, 6-4, 6-4.
