Lorde may never be one of the “royals,” but her hit of the same name has been holding the top spot on Billboard’s Hot 100 for the past eight weeks … and it’s been stuck in our heads for even longer. As with many chart-toppers, “Royals” has launched oodles of online covers, but this a cappella version may claim the throne.

The stunning rendition from Florida State University’s a cappella group Acabelles is much better than your usual sitting-in-front-of-a-webcam remix, but the ladies still keep things basic: blank background, black shirts, killer voices. The song starts with a slow, serious solo, until suddenly you find yourself in a labyrinth of angelic voices from which you never want to escape.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Boyz II Men recruited one of these girls. Yeah, it’s that good.

Of course, we don’t want to take anything away from the real teen queen. Lorde continues to rock, recently performing for VH1’s Thursday screening of “You Oughta Now In Concert,” which also features music from HAIM, Ed Sheeran and Emeli Sandé. Watch the 17-year-old singer continue her reign below with a live performance of her song “Bravado.” And remember, Lorde, when you go on your next tour, we have the perfect backup singers for you.
