Granted, this is the weekend Americans celebrate their victory over the British in the War for Independence, but is this any way to treat a former enemy?

“Rob’s British! He should be here with us,” wailed one fan among the many who waited up to 36 hours for the arrivals of Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner at Thursday night’s London premiere of Eclipse. Only snag: none of the three main stars made it to England for the big bow, reports the BBC.

“We are absolutely gutted … absolutely devastated,” said one female fan, who admitted to tears.

The trio apparently were previously committed. Showing up in their stead were, among others from the vampire flick (and box-office sensation), Nikki Reed, Alex Meraz, Kellan Lutz, Xavier Samuel and Ashley Greene.

Also making his presence felt: Joe Jonas.
