There’s nothing small about rapper Lil Wayne’s CD sales.
According to Nielsen SoundScan figures, his new release, Tha Carter III, sold one million copies in its first week – making it the best-selling first week of a CD of 2008. Ron Williams, co-founder of Lil Wayne’s record label, Cash Money Records, told the Associated Press, “I’ve been saying a million all along, and I’ve been telling people, and they’ve been looking at me crazy.”
The New Orleans native, 25 – who recently had a No. 1 hit with the single “Lollipop” – saw his last two CDs hit platinum, but not so quickly. (In fact, it’s a feat that hasn’t been accomplished since 50 Cent did it in 2005.) “He worked hard. He just came with something different,” said Williams.
