Attention, Golden Girls fans. You might just get to play with Lego versions of Dorothy, Sophia, Rose and Blanche.
On Tuesday, a Lego set version of the sitcom’s iconic kitchen and living room swept the Internet. And while the fact that someone re-created the show’s set is feat enough, the burst of viral popularity might mean the set could become a Lego product.
The proposal was submitted to Lego Ideas, a place where those skilled in brick-craft can show off their efforts and, if the project gets 10,000 votes, have it considered for production by Lego higher-ups. And on Tuesday, it got those votes.
Not every popular project gets approved by Lego, however. Ideas can be turned down because the company can’t get the licensing rights, because it doesn’t fit the Lego brand or because mass production of the sets wouldn’t be financially feasible. However, there are already Lego versions of the Star Wars, SpongeBob SquarePants, Pirates of the Caribbean, Disney Princess and other popular franchises – and also The Lone Ranger. A Simpsons-inspired line debuted last year.
In short, Lego Golden Girls could happen. The design by user lostsleep features many callbacks to the classic sitcom. Dorothy’s husband Stan appears, and scenes re-create memorable episodes such as the visit from Burt Reynolds and even the time Rose sparred with a young Jenny Lewis over her childhood teddy bear.
Lego versions of Seinfeld, The Big Bang Theory and other shows have also been proposed. Among the short list of approved and produced Lego Ideas projects are a Back to the Future time machine and Ecto-1 from Ghostbusters.
