Laura Bush Preparing Memoir for 2010 Release

Posted on

Laura Bush’s White House memoir will be published by the house of Scribner, most likely in 2010, the New York-based publisher announced Monday.

“As a rare witness to the private moments of one of our country’s most consequential presidencies, and as a first lady who has maintained a notable level of discretion, her memoir will provide a candid and personal perspective, and an enduring record, of the years that have already determined the course of the 21st century,” executive vice president and publisher of Scribner Susan Maldow said in a statement.

The first lady’s press secretary, Sally McDonough, declined to disclose the amount of Bush’s book advance, reports the Associated Press – which also notes that books by former first ladies tend to sell better than those by former presidents.

Hillary Clinton’s best-selling 2003 memoir, Living History, generated an $8 million advance.
