Lance Armstrong and New York fashion designer Tory Burch are no longer an item, their reps confirm to PEOPLE.

“The story is true,” says a source in the cycling champ’s camp, referring to a Wednesday morning report in the New York Post‘s Page Six column on the split.

Burch’s spokesperson called the breakup “amicable,” saying that “geography” was to blame. (Armstrong is based in Texas.)

The two were first reported together in March – though, by then, the seven-time Tour de France champ had been quietly dating Burch for months, according to sources.

As one source told PEOPLE at the time: “I can’t say whether it’s long-term, but they’re having a great time.”
