Two photographers who claim Cameron Diaz and Justin Timberlake taunted and attacked them outside Hollywood’s Chateau Marmont Hotel have slapped the couple with an assault and battery lawsuit.
Saul Lazo and Jose Gonzalez allege in their suit, filed Friday, that the actress and the singer threatened them on Nov. 6, when the men were trying to photograph the stars. The plaintiffs are seeking unspecified damages for having suffered emotional distress and physical harm, as well as unspecified general, special and punitive damages, and attorney’s fees, the Associated Press reports.
Lazo and Gonzalez claim they were on assignment for a photo agency and were standing more than 10 feet away from Diaz and Timberlake, and did nothing to harass them, when Diaz, 32, ran at Lazo, hit him in the neck and tripped him, snatching his camera.
Timberlake, 23, then allegedly screamed at the bleeding photographer as he was on the ground: “What … are you going to do, man? I know you are not going to do anything,” according to the complaint.
Lazo told Timberlake he was simply trying to do his job, the suit says.
A rep for the couple said he could not comment on the suit, but had said in a statement shortly after the incident that they were “ambushed by two men” and acted only in self-defense.
Diaz kept Lazo’s camera, later turning it in to police. According to the suit, she also tried to grab the other camera after pushing Gonzalez, who ran away along with Lazo as Timberlake called after them, “Come and fight, you chickens.”
