The father of American Idol castoff Kellie Pickler hopes to accompany his daughter to next week’s finale in Hollywood – if his Florida probation officers will let him.
Clyde “Bo” Pickler Jr., 41, was released from Florida State Prison on May 1 after serving three years for a trailer-park stabbing in 2003. He is currently on probation in Albemarle, N.C., where he is with his family.
His father, Clyde Pickler Sr., tells the New York Post, “We’ve been told it looks pretty good. If we go, it’ll probably be on Monday.” His son, he says, is “relieved, he’s doing great. People have been treating him really well since he’s been back, so he’s happy about that.”
Pickler’s attorney, Curtis Crider, tells the paper, “Probation (officers) can let him go wherever they want. I’ll have to go before the judge if they say no.”
On May 6, shortly after being voted out of Idol’s final six, Kellie Pickler returned to her Albemarle hometown and greeted thousands of fans – including her father, whom she had not seen during his prison stint.
“Throughout my 19 years, I’ve had my ups and downs,” Pickler told the crowd as she shared the stage with her dad, according to the Charlotte Observer. “I know a lot of people would think I’d have a lot of resentment toward this person, and I don’t. I feel blessed to have him back into my life.”
She added, “I’ve been prayerful (that) when this person came back to Albemarle, he’d be given a second chance. We all make mistakes and we all learn from them.” To her father, she said, “I love you, and am so glad to have you back in my life.”
