The Internet fell into frenzy Monday when gossip sites reported that Katy Perry had registered a new song entitled “1984” with music-licensing group BMI.

Not the case, say Perry’s people.

“Katy Perry s managers at Direct Management Group confirm that this story is completely false,” a label rep for Perry told Billboard. “Katy Perry was not involved in writing, singing, recording or registering this song.”

According to the rumors, the record was a rebuttal aimed at Taylor Swift, whose “Bad Blood” single has long been speculated as being inspired by an alleged feud with Perry.

The reported Perry track was seen as a jab at Swift, whose latest No. 1 album is titled 1989.
