She’s been spotted hand-in-hand with a handsome hockey player, but Julianne Hough admits she needed a break from dating after splitting from Ryan Seacrest in March.

“I’m a relationship girl, and I feel so grateful for the one’s I’ve been in. They’ve been excellent – I’ve been hurt but never angry – and they’ve helped me grow,” the former Dancing with the Stars pro tells Self. “But my goal has been to be single for an entire year.”

Hough, 25, may have had a hard time keeping that promise. The singer/actress briefly dated director Ari Sandel and is now linked to Washington Capitals player Brooks Laich, 30. Still, media mogul Seacrest remains her most serious love interest: The couple spent almost three years together.

Hough, who recently debuted a trendy pixie cut, says she “honestly doesn’t care” about meeting Mr. Right soon.

“There have been moments when I’m like, ‘This sucks!’ ” she says in Self, on newsstands Feb. 25. “For now, I’m focusing on my work and my soul. … I’m just loving life on my own with my own two feet on the ground.”
