Even the Grinch might shed a tear when listening to Jordan Smith‘s take on a Christmas classic.

The Voice singer, 22, belted out “Mary, Did You Know?” with raw emotion during Monday night’s episode of the singing competition.

True to form, Smith’s performance built to a goosebumps-worthy crescendo that had the audience applauding with gusto.

Fans of the tenor won’t be surprised to learn that his recording is already No. 1 on the iTunes chart. Meanwhile, Smith’s new performance of “Climb Every Mountain” from The Sound of Music sits firm in the No. 3 slot, just behind his fellow competitor Emily Ann Roberts’ take on Cam’s “Burning House.”

Smith previously held the top position on iTunes with last week’s rendition of “Somebody to Love,” which took the honor from Adele’s “Hello.”

“I was actually on the red carpet doing press after the show,” Smith told PEOPLE of his reaction to the feat. “We were all checking the charts anyway just to see how everybody was doing. I opened my phone and saw it and I almost was moved to tears. It was so incredible!”

All the excitement leads up to The Voice‘s season 9 finale on Tuesday. Find out which of the final four contestants claims victory at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
