Jill Duggar thought March 29 would be just a normal day.
She and boyfriend Derick Dillard were taking a casual Saturday stroll into the center of Bentonville, Ark., enjoying the sunshine and spring breeze after sharing enchiladas at lunch.
Jill, 22, didn’t think twice when their two chaperones – her sisters Jana, 24, and Joy, 16, accompanying the couple due to her family’s conservative religious philosophy – started lagging behind or when a stranger on a park bench asked if he could sing the young couple a love song.
“By the second verse,” Jill says, “I knew the song was about Derick and me.”
Musicians came out from behind the bushes and a fountain to join in, and when Derick, 25, dropped to one knee, offering up the .63-carat diamond and white-gold ring he’d custom-designed, everything became clear.
