Who knew that Candy was on Jenny Craig’s diet?
The diet empire mogul herself owns a champion racehorse, Sidney’s Candy, named for Craig’s late husband Sid, who died in 2008 – and the animal, one of many champions bred by Craig at her 237-acre Rancho Santa Fe racing stables and breeding and training center in California, is favored 5:1 to win the Kentucky Derby Saturday, according to the big race’s official Web site.
“He s really a jockey s dream,” Sidney Candy’s jockey, Joe Talamo, told PEOPLE during a break from practice Thursday. “He does everything so easily.”
Of Craig, Talamo says: “She has a real, real big passion and love for the sport and the horses very genuine, very nice, very gracious.”
The 5’2″, 110-lb. jockey, 20, started racing professionally four years ago. “Some jockeys, it takes them decades, and some not even get to go to the Derby, so to be this young and to be where I m at today, I just feel real blessed and just real pumped up and excited,” he said.
The Kentucky Derby airs from 4-7 p.m. ET on Saturday on NBC.
