He may not have a mullet, but Jay Leno is apparently ripe for a fashion makeover from Bravo’s cable network hit “Queer Eye for the Straight Guy.”
Bravo’s parent company, NBC, which has been airing half-hour versions of the hourlong show as part of its primetime lineup, announced Monday that the program’s “Fab Five” makeover artists — Ted Allen, Kyan Douglas, Thom Filicia, Carson Kressley and Jai Rodriguez — will get their happy little hands on Leno for a special segment on the “Tonight Show.”
The on-air makeover is due to go down Thursday, Aug. 14, and a network spokeswoman says NBC will also air a special half-hour episode of “Queer Eye” earlier in the evening. (Thursdays are also “Will & Grace” nights on NBC.)
There’s no word yet on the extent to which the experts in grooming, food, fashion, culture and interior design will make over Leno, 53 — or whether they plan to invade his home or just his dressing room and/or car garage. (Leno is a car enthusiast.)
Interestingly, “Queer Eye” is not actually aimed at a gay male audience, but at women aged 18 to 49, who form the primary audience, followed by gay males, the trade publication Ad Age reports.
In its third week on Bravo, the show attracted 2.8 million total viewers and 2.1 million adults ages 18 to 49, according to the Nielsen ratings, making it the No. 1-rated program in its timeslot among that group on ad-supported cable.
