Jamie Lee Curtis is turning 50 and shouting it from the rooftops – along with a few lessons she’s learned along the way.
“Fifty is a big corner to turn. It used to mean being put out to pasture, but it’s the opposite with me,” the actress, who will reach the half-century point on Nov. 22, tells More magazine for its July/August issue. “I feel more vibrant; I’m more active than I’ve ever been.”
And more adventurous: Earlier this year, Curtis dropped her top on a magazine cover in order to encourage women to accept their bodies and the beauty of aging naturally.
Now, the free-spirited actress is baring her soul about her struggles with addiction, and how others can face their problems head-on.
“Did you get booked [for DUI]? Get the picture. Go to the police department, thank them for arresting you, frame the picture and put it up in your kitchen,” advises Curtis, who also says she wrote a letter to her sister, Kelly, when first facing her addiction.
“I’ve betrayed you, and I know that you’re angry, and you have every right to be,” she recalls writing.
Now, Curtis relishes the freedom that soberness has brought her. “When you gain sobriety in the middle of your life, you’re really reborn,” she says.
As her big day approaches, Curtis is happy to have “dropped the rock – the rock of addiction, of family, of comparisons with other people. It’s being fit and focused and furious.”
