The show will go on for American Idol runner-up Bo Bice – despite the painful fact that the singer broke his foot onstage in Manchester, N.H., Sunday night.

“I’m siting here with the doctor in emergency room number two,” Bice, 29, told PEOPLE on Monday from a Cleveland hospital, following an 11-hour drive to Ohio for the continuation of the American Idols concert tour.

Did his treatment include painkillers? “I’m on a little bit of stuff, to ease pain of my foot,” Bice admitted.

But mightn’t that hinder his ability to remember his lyrics? “Man, I have that problem, anyway,” he joked.

“As far as (continuing) the tour is concerned,” Bice went on to say, “there’s nothing to worry about. There’s no keeping me from the tour.” He’ll shoulder on with the help of an air cast and continued medical surveillance.

Sunday’s slip occurred because instead of his usual cowboy boots Bice had switched over to tennis shoes for the shows. “I run around the stage a lot,” he explains, “and normally I wear the boots. Except three or four shows ago they started to slip.”

Enter the tennis shoes and a new problem: “Tennis shoes rip,” he said, after twisting his ankle and breaking his foot during the first song of his set. Aptly, the song he was singing at the pivotal moment was called “I Don’t Wanna Be.”

As for his upcoming debut album (to be produced by Desmond Child and Jamie Houston), Bice says his foot accident will cause “no unforeseen delays. My days off are spent recording. Hopefully, this won t hurt it.”

Besides, to further ease the pain, Bice has a new bride, Caroline Fisher, whom he married in Helena, Ala., June 15.

Concludes a lightly sedated Bice: “Life is good.”
