Tori Spelling, who took her 7-year-old stepson Jack to Tuesday’s American Idol taping, thinks Taylor Hicks will be the last person singing. “I came tonight liking both and couldn’t decide. I left wanting Taylor. He just had so much passion. He performed his heart out,” she says. “He is not typically what you would think to be an American Idol, but after hearing him and watching him he is exactly an American Idol.”

James Van Der Beek and wife Heather McComb are also “rooting for Taylor.” The couple have TiVo-ed the show all season and McComb has voted almost every week. “I had two favorites when this season started – Taylor and Chris. I feel bad, though, because Chris is gone,” she says. “I feel personally responsible because that week we went out and we didn’t get back in time to vote.”

American Idol star Fantasia is a fan of both the finalists: McPhee “has a classic ballad voice and a good stage presence,” while Hicks “has a soulful voice and puts everything he has into what he performs.”

Mandy Moore is on the Soul Patrol. “I think he has great style – I’ve never seen another contestant on that show quite like him,” she says of Hicks. “He has my vote!”

Mimi Rogers has come down with McPhever. “Katharine is just so massively talented,” she says.

• Actor Willie Garson (Sex and the City) is in the Hicks camp. “I’m thrilled that someone like Taylor could possibly actually win American Idol,” he told us before Tuesday’s show. “He’s bluesy and really talented.”

• Though he’s reluctant to pick his favorite, ‘N Sync’s JC Chasez has advice for the two singers. “They should know as artists they don’t have to do anything they don’t want to do,” says Chasez. “But at the same time, they are new to this and don’t know everything yet, so they should really listen and learn.”
