It may be summer vacation, but the cast of Desperate Housewives returned to work this week, wearing black.
The reason? They were shooting a funeral, reports the New York Post, speculating that the service is likely for character Rex Van De Camp (Steven Culp), whose heart attack was reported to wife Bree (Marcia Cross) in last season’s finale.
Not that the work was sad, executive producer-writer Tom Spezialy tells the paper. “There was so much laughter at that funeral it was hardly a funeral,” he said, declining to state exactly whose funeral this was.
As for the cast reunion – last week, Emmy nominations went to Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman and Cross, though not to Eva Longoria and Nicollette Sheridan – Spezialy says: “For the cast and crew it was like coming back from camp – they all gathered and compared tan lines, storylines and nominations.”
Meanwhile, come fall, CBS plans to do battle with the ABC Sunday night hit by scheduling a series of high-concept made-for-TV movies about vampire bats, serial killers, bomb scares, Martha Stewart and Pope John Paul II, reports Reuters.
The season will premiere with Cybill Shepherd in the glossy Martha Behind Bars – about the domestic diva’s insider trading scandal that landed her in prison.
