Tommy Hilfiger may be picking up Jennifer Lopez.
In an in-depth analysis of the clothing designer’s label and its financial woes, The New York Times suggests that Hilfiger’s $1.89 billion company may buy Sweetface Fashion, the holding company that owns the J.Lo by Jennifer Lopez line.
According to The Times, Sweetface is young and promising enough to help revitalize Hilfiger, should it become Sweetface’s parent.
Fashion business analysts say Hilfiger’s popularity and sales have peaked, his brand is too old, and the department stores to which he caters are all in trouble to begin with.
Sweetface spokesman Paul Wilmot had no comment on the report. Coincidentally, J.Lo’s partner in Sweetface is Andy Hilfiger, brother of Tommy.
Meanwhile, speaking of J.Lo, she also has been cleaning out her closet — and not necessarily of clothes.
Barely two weeks after she fired her spokesman Alan Nierob, Lopez, 32, has axed her longtime manager, Benny Medina, New York’s Daily News reports. She also has parted ways with her agent, Patrick Whitesell, of the firm Endeavor.
Variety reports that Endeavor presented Lopez with an ultimatum: It’s us or Medina. She ended up firing them both.
The New York Post reports that Lopez’s fiance, Ben Affleck, 30, was behind the maneuvers because Affleck didn’t care for the diva image Medina had created for Lopez.
