An uncle who rescued his baby niece from a terrifying car crash is being hailed as a hero, but he insists it’s what any “decent human being” would have done.
Tyler Blake Kimbrell was driving behind his sister Destiny in Colbert County, Alabama, when her car ran off the road, falling 100 ft. and overturning, WHNT reports.
Destiny, who was thrown from the vehicle, was not injured, but her 11-month-old daughter Breleigh was trapped in the car.
Kimbrell didn’t stop to think, he just scrambled to save his baby niece. The dramatic rescue was captured on cellphone video because Kimbrell used it as a light to guide him.
“The first thing I saw was what looked like a lifeless body laying there, but I knew there was hope,” he told WHNT.
In the video, he can be heard trying to calm his sister down as he frantically tries to reach little Breleigh. “She’s alive!” he shouts, ordering Destiny to call 911. “Hold on sweetie, I got you,” he then says to the infant.
Thankfully, both mom and daughter escaped the crash with no permanent injuries. As for Kimbrell, he’s shocked by all the attention the rescue has attracted.
“I think that anyone who is a decent human being would do that for someone, regardless if it was family or someone that’s a stranger,” he told WHNT.
Now, he’s set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for his sister and niece, who lost most of their belongings in the crash.
“I just think people need to love other people,” he said. “I’m just really happy it’s touched so many lives and I can’t wait for this little girl to see [the video] when she gets older.”
