Imagine for a second that the movie Her took place not in the near future, but in 1995.
The pants would be acid-washed jeans, instead of high-waisted trousers. Joaquin Phoenix‘s facial hair would be more like a soul patch than an immaculate mustache. And instead of falling in love with a digital assistant voiced by Scarlett Johansson, Phoenix’s Theodore Twombly would have fallen in love with Clippy, the Microsoft Office paper clip.
That’s the future imagined by the comedy troupe Late Night Basement in their short video “Her in 1995.” Sure, it might seem a little implausible that a man would fall for an anthropomorphic paper clip, but as any Microsoft Office user will tell you, there’s a thin line between love and hate.
Watch the clip above, and then check out another Her parody, which swaps Johansson’s voice for Seth Rogen‘s. It’s hard to decide which one’s sexier.
