When Gwyneth Paltrow isn’t making movies, she’s making gazpacho. And corn chowder. And hand-kneaded pizza.
“I always feel closest to my father, who was the love of my life until his death in 2002, when I am in the kitchen,” Paltrow writes in the introduction to her cookbook, My Father’s Daughter, which is excerpted in the August issue of Vogue.
“I can still hear him over my shoulder,” she writes, “heckling me, telling me to be careful with my knife, moaning with pleasure over a bite of something in only the way a Jew from Long Island can.”
Now known for her conscientious eating, Paltrow writes that chicken and dumplings or pancakes were on the menu – not health food – while cooking with her father.
And although the actress openly detoxes before priming for new movie roles, one of her favorite foods is French fries. (Her book does feature an oven-baked recipe, however.)
This is all part of her cooking mantra, which she reveals in the cookbook. “Invest in what’s real,” she writes. “Clean as you go. Drink while you cook. Make it fun. It doesn’t have to be complicated. It will be what it will be.”
My Father’s Daughter arrives in stores in next April.
