While making his pitch for a more inclusive GOP, South Carolina senator and 2016 presidential candidate Lindsey Graham said that Caitlyn Jenner is “welcome” in his party.

“I haven’t walked in her shoes. I don’t have all the answers to the mysteries of life,” Graham told CNN in an interview that aired Sunday.

He added: “I can only imagine the torment that Bruce Jenner went through. I hope he’s – I hope she has found peace.”

And though Graham describes himself as a “pro-life, traditional-marriage kind of guy,” he says that doesn’t mean he plans to exclude Jenner, who has said she is a Republican, from his party.

“I’m running to be president of the United States,” he said. “If Caitlyn Jenner wants to be a Republican, she is welcome in my party.”
