“There was nothing tough about it,” the longtime bachelor, 54, tells news.com.au of getting used to marriage, now that he’s seven months into it. “Our only adjustments are figuring out our schedules. Our deal is that we can’t be more than a week apart. So far, that’s worked out pretty well.”
It’s certainly a recipe for closeness. And, as we know, closeness can lead to babies. But on that score, the Oscar winner claims he and Amal, 37, have much less of a concrete plan.
“Ah,” he says with a laugh. “I have actually no idea about that.”
Instead, his thoughts seem to be largely about travel, and the places he and Amal can enjoy together that aren’t part of work trips.
“I’ll tell you, there are places I would like to be in the world with Amal that we want to go to that we haven’t gone,” he says. “If I could be anywhere now, it would be she and I on a motorcycle in the middle of the French Alps near a town called Barcellonette, which is a Mexican village and it’s unbelievable.”
Another favorite spot? Their newly purchased house along the River Thames, west of London.
“The town has the greatest pub in the world which is something like 200 years old. Amal and I walk from our house over a bridge, through a graveyard and into the pub. It’s fine going there but coming back is a little, eh,” he jokes.
“Now we’re in the middle of updating the house, and we’re bringing it back to the Georgian style. I have a boat and we ride around and there’s an unbelievably great restaurant nearby called The French Horn. I love it there.”
And what is life like at home for the newlyweds?
“Well, I cook a little bit. My wife makes reservations,” Clooney says. Through his wife and her family, the actor adds that he’s also now “a bit of a connoisseur of Lebanese food. I didn’t know much about it before, but I find it to be fantastic. We eat a lot of tabbouleh.”
Finally, on the subject of their personal style, Clooney admits his wife probably has him beat.
“The funny thing is, from the first day I met Amal, you could see that she has her own sense of style. She doesn’t have a stylist, she has clothes that she loves to wear and she knows exactly what they are,” he says.
On the other hand, “sometimes Amal looks at me confused about my sense of style,” he adds. “There are times when she says, ‘Are you going to wear a tequila T-shirt again?’ ”
