James Gandolfini’s fiancee of one year, Lora Somoza, has canceled their engagement so she can move out West to care for her ailing grandmother while he remains in New York, Gandolfini’s manager confirms to New York’s Daily News.
“They are still friends, but he will be working for the next year straight and she needs to move to Los Angeles to take care of her grandmother,” says rep Mark Armstrong. “James is working on movies and on The Sopranos, which will start shooting in April.”
Somoza was a production assistant on Gandolfini’s movie The Mexican when the couple met five years ago. At the time, Gandolfini, now 43, was still married to his wife, Marcy. Their three-year marriage ended in 2002, and they have one child.
