Ex-Manager Sues Ricky for $63.5 Million

Posted on

SUED: Ricky Martin’s former manager has filed a $63.5 million lawsuit against the singer for breach of contract, the Associated Press reports. Angelo Medina (whom Martin is suing for $25 million, alleging the manager was paid for services not rendered) claims the pop star, 32, failed to live up to terms agreed upon when they ended their contract in September. Medina claims he was to continue managing Martin’s career in Puerto Rico but not internationally, but the singer broke all ties. Edgardo Cartagena, a lawyer for Martin, called Medina’s allegations “not too well-organized.”

OVERHAULED: Susan Hawk, 42, may have lost weight during her stint on Survivor: All-Stars, but she still felt flabby in all the wrong places. “Things don’t disappear no matter how bad you starve yourself,” says the smoothie-shop owner. So Hawk agreed to undergo an extreme makeover – including a breast enlargement, an eyelift and liposuction on her thighs and stomach – documented and paid for by TV’s Extra. Though she has yet step on the scale, she says: “I’m just going by how my clothes fit, and they are looking really loose. I feel good. And I have a waist now.”

RESCHEDULED: Late Show with David Letterman will stay up extra late on Friday, May 14, taping at 4 a.m. that morning, and then airing in its regular 11:35 p.m. timeslot. “It’s just a silly idea that appealed to us,” said executive producer Rob Burnett, who plans to take advantage of New York’s quirky early-morning nature. “I have a feeling that, in theory, it should be easier to get tickets” to the show, says Burnett.

CANCELED: David Bowie, 57, scrapped a concert in Miami Thursday after a local stagehand was killed in a fall before the performance began, the rock star’s publicist said in a statement. Details of the accident at the James L. Knight Center, or of the stagehand’s identity, were not disclosed, police reportedly are investigating.

DIED: Gilbert Lani Kauhi, 66, a member of the original cast of TV’s Hawaii Five-0, died in Hilo Medical Center on Monday of complications from diabetes, said his mother, Emma Kauhi. On the show he played the burly Hawaiian sidekick to the show’s star, Jack Lord.

SELECTED: Donald Trump, 57, will be toast – and toasted – when the New York Friars Club salutes him on Oct. 15. “I am so proud that during our centennial year the name of Donald Trump gets added to the Friars’ illustrious list of roastees,” Friars Club dean Freddie Roman said in a statement. Those former roastees include Billy Crystal, Jerry Lewis and Hugh Hefner.

SCRAPPED: Major League Baseball officials have nixed a plan to place Spider-Man 2 logos on the bases of 15 ballparks across the country, following cries of outrage from fans. The ads would have been laid down on playing fields from June 11-13. (The movie opens June 30.) “We understand that a segment of our fans was uncomfortable” with the ads, said Bob DuPuy, baseball’s chief operating officer.
