Having tiptoed around who would make the right guy – or even who is the guy she is now seeing – Anne Hathaway has now been cornered by Ellen DeGeneres on the subject of Mr. Right.

“If you need someone, I will find you a boyfriend,” the TV host tells the Bride Wars star on the Ellen DeGeneres Show to air Thursday. “I’m really good at it.”

“Did you see how nervous I just got?” responds Hathaway.

“You don’t even have to date,” advises DeGeneres, who herself is , to Portia de Rossi. “You can straight to commitment.”

After splitting last year from her longtime beau Raffaello Follieri – who pleaded guilty in September to more than a dozen counts of money laundering and fraud – Hathaway has since hinted (but revealed nothing more) about a possible new love interest.

Credits Sense of Humor

In terms of what she’s now looking for in a guy, “At this point I would just like him to be law abiding,” says Hathaway, 26, adding: “2008 was the year I learned to have a sense of humor about everything.”

It also helped that Saturday Night Live came a-calling – she hosted the show on Oct. 4, and poked fun at her boyfriend woes – her circle of friends and family proved supportive.

She knew, too, that the paparazzi were on her tail in the hope of catching a shot of her crying – for which she was on guard.

“So I went to a friend’s house,” recalls Hathaway. “It was the first moment I could let go, and I remember sinking onto her living room floor. She came and gave me the biggest hug, and my brother was there and everyone was just surrounding me giving me so much love.”

Cried, Then Laughed

The scene, as Hathaway describes it, involved her “sobbing, and I look up and I started laughing and said this is going to make a great opening monologue on SNL. So then, two weeks later I got the call that I was going to be on SNL.

“I was like I’m going to laugh first, and nobody is going to be able to laugh at me, and eventually it will just be something that happened to me and now it is. I’m so thrilled.”

Acknowledging that the situation wasn’t her fault, Hathaway also says, “And good things come from it. I feel like, also in 2008, the whole experience made me so much closer to my family. I feel like I’m a better friend, because I had to receive so much love in 2008, so I really understand what it is now to give it. It was really a transformative experience in a lot of good ways.”

When DeGeneres tells her not to regret it, Hathaway replies, “And, never do it again.”
