We’ll be hearing about Saoirse Ronan a lot during awards season, so might as well learn how to properly pronounce the her name.
The Golden Globe nominated star stopped by The Ellen DeGeneres Show and was presented with an unusual but useful gift.
Ronan, 21, was given a large over-the-shoulder sign with “Hello, My Name is Sur-Sha” written on both sides that also came with pockets filled with Moet champagne and snacks for the red carpet. We’ll have to wait and see if she accessorizes her glam ensemble with host Ellen DeGeneres‘ clever gift on Sunday at the Golden Globe Awards.
The Irish native has garnered much awards buzz for her performance in John Crowley’s romantic drama Brooklyn. Ronan has already earned Golden Globe and SAG nominations for Best Actress, and is hotly tipped to earn her second Oscar nomination.
Ellen isn’t the only celebrity fan helping fans and industry types pronounce Ronan’s first name correctly. Ryan Gosling previously explained how to say her moniker while presenting the actress with the New Hollywood Award at the Hollywood Film Awards in November.
“It’s Ser-sha, like inertia,” The Big Short actor clarified.
“Someone sent me a photo two weeks later of a cinema in Minnesota, and on the sign in the front it said “Brooklyn” and then underneath it said, ‘Ser-sha, Like Inertia,'” Ronan told PEOPLE. “I couldn’t believe it! They actually put it on the front of the cinema, so the power of Ryan Gosling is stronger than anything else.”
Now the power of Ryan AND Ellen will surely have everyone praising her name with accurate pronunciation!
